Wario kinda falls into this category for me too since he doesn't play at all like he does in the wario land series, now he has a shop system which I'd imagine would be a pain for map makers to keep in mind when making levels (buying a hammer suit in a 1-1 difficulty level, where no one else is able to get one)Īnd as much as I like Samus I don't think her gameplay works overall for the type of levels that are made with SMBX, again the map would have to be designed specifically for her in order to really work right. Megaman just doesn't really work for me, there had to be some changes to how he his physics behave to be able to remain compatible with the rest of the game but I feel that it didn't work out, he feels too slippery and just not as precise as how he does in his own games, Like Uncle Broadsword feels like a character from a specific mappack but for some reason is now his own character (it's the one eyed guy in the thumbnail) I'd imagine it would be really painful designing levels with him in mind if people are using multiple characters.Īnd the non Mario characters really make this feel cluttered to me, Snake feels like a glorified link re skin with less maneuverability. Zelda for example she seems broken to me, for starters that teleporter move I'd imagine would be really troubling if it's possible to get yourself trapped in ceiling spaces, and from a showcase I saw she also has the ability to reset ? blocks which could seriously break levels in major ways. Most of the characters in SMBX mostly played similar to each other, while some had some advantages over others I feel it was overall decently balanced (Link's downstab is the closest thing I could think to being close to overpowered)īut from what I've seen most of the new characters seem to be designed for specific types of levels design and would require multiple playthroughs with different characters. The biggest part of these updates I've seen are the LunaDLL programming thing and New characters, from what I've seen of the latter I'm not exactly a fan, If I remember correctly apparently Ninja Bomberman was actually a data file found in the EXE version of SMBX before it got canned, don't quote me on that.Īlso Chaoxys those features are actually exclusive to that mappack, it's an example of what LunaDLL can do.
